I agree with enaikelt, I recommend this manga, if not for the story, then for everything you can learn about yakuza and japanese culture through the scanlator notes.

That aside, the story is actually really great! You want to know how these two main leads take care of sometimes violent situations, and they don't dissappoint.

I haven't read stories with yanderes in them, because the psycopathic gore usually keeps me away; so coming from that, I think the characters are really unique. You've got the p-psychotic male lead (wow... do people like him actually exist??), and than you've got the pretty normal female lead in that she's bad at studies and gets surprised at things normal girls get surprised at. But she's frank in the way she talks her mind and doesn't mind a lot of things and thinks about others instead of feeling sorry for herself all the time. Yeah, she's actually someone you might want to be friends with (I take my previous statement back, very atypical of a female lead)!

For example, she doesn't mind the male lead having a whole bunch of bed buddies outside the house, and she would give extra sweets to him to give to those girls --- aw, helping to maintain his social circles lol. Ok, ok, but be fair, she doesn't really think of him as a boyfriend anymore but they are still planned to be engaged in the public yakuza eye. In addition, she would help him solve cases when he needs, oh yah, she's got it in her when he needs it.

The author's really doing a great job. Having come after reading her other work, Haru no noroi, I was prepared for this to be another mellow, mediocre, and depressing... why did I... manga, but she's completely switched gears. This is one heck of a thriller. Would recommend.

We got finally good MCs and an interesting story, it might seem like giggle-giggle but in reality the story is going to get deep. I actually do like both of the MC’s, characters r interesting.

...is the translator. This translator writes some of the best and most in-depth TL notes I've ever seen about yakuza culture and Japanese culture as a whole. Frankly, I would recommend reading it just for that, but since this is a review about a story...

it's good. It's not at all shoujo, and it's got kind of a sheen of realism to it that makes you feel like the author really did their homework. To be fair, I honestly don't know anything about the Japanese yakuza, so maybe they're just good at pulling the wool over my eyes, but it just feels like the author doesn't pull punches.

The FL isn't great in the first few chapters, but eventually, just like the ML, she reveals that she, too, has kind of been putting on an act for him, and then you start liking her much, much more.

For anyone who has read the mangaka's earlier work; "Haru ni noroi" had a sombre and restrained atmosphere. Its amazing how she shifted gears for this storyline. I LOVE and main characters of this manga- the female lead is strong without being annoying and best of all SHE DOES NOT ACT STUPID IN FRONT OF THE ML (other mangas with "strong female lead" tag- please please please take note of how to portray a strong female lead from this plot!). As for the ML- hmmm I still feel he is batshit crazy and she would be better off without him but maybe the mangaka has in store for us some surprise plot twists.
My ideal ending would be both of them remaining just friends while the FL marries a decent (and morally better) man

I loved Haru no noroi, and I follow the artist on pixiv so I was waiting with high expectations for this manga. Raise wa Tanin ga Ii does not disappoint.

The female lead gets the 'rich young lady', and 'emotionally strong' tags, but she's not simple. Even if she's never been involved in her family business directly, she's grown up in a male dominant family under yakuza traditions, and its been commented that she resembles her grandfather (yakuza boss). This isn't a story of a physically powerful female gang leader, but the story of a yakuza heiress living in a modern society. Also, because there's actual intelligence behind the story it's a very readable and unique relationship dynamic(thank god).

The male lead gets the yandere tag a lot, and I can see why. But again its a more realistic take. He's completely addicting to read about, and Yoshino looks at him with eyes wide open.

I believe the story is segueing into a more political one (yakuza family conflicts) but I'm reading it for the FL and ML. So far, there has been little to no love on the FL's part, so its a slow romance but that's my preference. The ML feelings just feel suspicious but that brings tension and intrigue. I hope the authors works get an official English translation because I really want to own a physical copy.

I mean this one is my top 10 manga to read nowadays, like aaahhhhhhh Yoshino-sama is the best FeMC in any Yakuza theme I've seen. And its reality and brutality of Yakuza politics is so gooooodddddd, this is (for me at least) the best way to understand Yakuza and how they do their politics. I like how blunt the author towards us readers,

like Somei grandpapa have a lot of mistress and lot of child, how Shouma used drug and in his early teen he already bedded a lot of woman, like lol, if its another genre, there is now ay they made it like this lolol (thank god for Seinen, yeah?). It a must read for me.

And I wish there is someone normal that would take Yoshino away, instead of Kirishima, ey wistful much yeah.

It is quite an interesting read for people who are looking for a twisted male lead. I love how the author tastefully handled Miyama's weird ''interests". Hohohoho.

I may not be quite sure, but I think this manga has appeal to the female audience more than the male.

9/10 mostly because it doesn’t have that many chapters yet for me to fairly give it a10.

I think I need to preface this by saying this is a yakuza manga. Previous commenters have commented how women are treated as delicate in this manga, but you gotta realize that that’s how it is in yakuza. As mentioned in the TLer’s notes, yakuza are built on the whole “chivalry” thing, though that word has a different meaning when it comes to yakuza. If you look up articles or documentaries about yakuza women, they don’t get involved in the shady businesses that the men deal with. They’re there for support, that’s it. The woman is only there to assist their man, or the family.

Though with that said, Yoshino at first was annoying, since she seemed so passive (which I wouldn’t be surprised cause as I mentioned, women aren’t really involved in the shady things yakuza men do), but underneath all of that, she’s feisty and doesn’t back down from Miyama scaring her. What’s also great is that, in yakuza, family is very important (your yakuza family that is). When she

defended Shouma from Miyama talking smack about him

I started liking her more. She sees through Miyama’s BS, is wary of him, and is straightforward, but still is sorta nice to him. It’s refreshing because Miyama’s her opposite. He’s shady af, you can’t get a read on him, and he pretends. It’s nice to see that she hasn’t fallen for him yet (I mean, can you blame her? He’s even more dangerous than most yakuza), and tells him how it really is.

As for Miyama, I feel as if he’s on the extreme end of being yandere (though he probably won’t kill Yoshino). Be warned though, this manga has a ton of violence, and although it doesn’t show any gore, it IS a yakuza manga. He’s also very creepy, but he never hurts Yoshino. Not yet that is.

The art needed some getting used to (It’s SORTA pretty, if you ignore all their thin waists, as well as some of the angles), but it’s really nice. I love how the mangaka draws their expressions, it’s really expressive. As for the pacing, I can’t say much for now since it’s only been 10 chapters, but so far so good.

The translator is doing an AMAZING job! The fact that they explain so many aspects of the yakuza world to us (like the three types of ways a member can leave the family) is so helpful, and they go above and beyond to do that. Also the fact that they gave Yoshino and most people from Osaka an accent, not a lot of translators do that.

I just wish there were more chapters out, but I’m pretty sure the mangaka is trying their best ^^

It's a unique setting I'll give it that but I feel like the MC is better off leaving the yakuza and setting off on her own path. There's a lot of casual violence and disturbing imagery for a drama. I feel like a good portion of it is for the shock factor vs any particular reason. The both LI are just somewhat off-putting in that you feel unsettled by their extreme dedication to her. MC is definitely strong-willed but I have a feeling this is less about her changing for her role than acclimating to it. The romance is very unstable and there's a lack of connection other than external factors like looks, money, and status. I guess you can say that their yakuza background is a link but she's met other yakuza members already.

Although the LI is not abusive towards her but everyone in the cast has a low opinion of women due to the hierarchy ¯_(ツ)_/¯

That's a shame since the MC deserves a much better writing than lol women's roles.

Yup I literally made an account here so I could bring justice to this manga's rating. I am UNDENIABLY obsessed with this manga because its so insane and untamed. It doesn't fit into any genre because its just completely out of the box and it knows no boundaries. NADA. I find it incredibly refreshing and interesting, from the plot to all the characters.

I'll say DO NOT read this manga if 1.)you cannot handle anything rated R 2.)you're not old enough to watch rate R movies 3.)you only read cliche shoujo mangas where the "bad boy" is a virgin 4.)you take everything in life too seriously and cannot accept that THIS IS JUST A MANGA

ahem anyways, I just LOVE the characters. They're somewhat exaggerated but they're very real in the sense that they ARE part of the yakuza and their actions reflect the environment they were raised in. Its all very well researched and doesnt feel watered down for the sake of mass appeal. None of the characters are one dimensional, they all have different sides and some which comes as a surprise and you just cant help but be fascinated by them. The MC is AMAZING, I love that shes so strong willed without depending violence (but dont worry, if she needs to kick someone in the a*s she will). Its like when she speaks during crucial moments every word is a punch in a gut. She's very clear headed and doesn't waver on her decisions. If she says she'll kill someone, you wont doubt her.

The story has a great balance of humor, creepiness, and seriousness. Guaranteed this manga will be a fun ride for those who wants to read something a little different and a little wild. I for one will be obsessively following this manga until it ends.

Tbh, her art style reminds me of shoujo, adding that with high school background, I was like "eh".. cause the theme is pretty twisted and has adult vibe so I was confused at first, there's no way this is shoujo. When I found out this is seinen, I was like 'oh.. now that makes sense'. It seems that the author always aiming for adult reader. And till now, she still can pull the reader to enjoy her works.

Story wise, it reminds me of Tokyo Crazy Paradise by Nakamura Yoshiki. It has romance element, obssesed male lead, yakuza things and high school background. For now, the difference lays on each characters and storyline (dunno, it's still early for me to judge lol). So far, it's interesting though the progress is pretty slow. I know this is to build their relationship and character in what way they will become

Actually, I'm not really sure how both main character can develop romance relationship by now. Their character are different to each other. One is too strong, manipulative, has s&m side and twisted, another is just normal though she sure can stand up for her own and being part of a yakuza family will help her a lot I guess. I just need some more development so I can see why and how
