Okay, the author just justified that even if the mc wants to be in a normal relationship, he can't. The reason why it's been so tame lately is because the author needed to justify this. If I understand the author well, this is because what comes next is gonna be fucked up, like Mirai Nikki level of fucked up if not more, without getting fantastic and all that bs time travel. The psychological manipulation and all the stuff that's gonna be drawn might be actually very interesting.

Little update, Black 2 and White 2 arc is finished and all regular volumes are already released in english. First english regular volume of XY coming out in January 2022, second in May(there will be most likely 6 volumes of the English edition in total). Japanese volumes coming out slowly, last volume of XY will come out soon(probabl february or march) and then we will have wait probably another year for whole OR/AS arc.
