    only on chapter 6 so id like to guess whats going on. in the flashback they mentioned a trip to Africa. I dont think its a coincidence there are 'zombies' on ship after visiting the source of the legend of zombies. in the legend zombies are brought back to serve a master, according to the legend if they taste salt they will realize there dead and return to there grave, i know it wont be that easy but like i said im guessing here.
