There's always something special about the realization of mortality with magical creatures. Fairies, elves, dwarves etc. all outlive humans by hundreds of years and we rarely get any of them having the realization that every human they know will die centuries before them. Like imagine meeting your best friend, seeing him get married and have kids, then being there at his funeral with the children you've been around since they were babies. You'd know his family for generations before you even got a wrinkle and every generation you'd look back on how small their lifespans are.

I think that's why I like things like Frieren, it pretty much the only series I know handling that subject.
