Seeing all the (recent) negative comments, I set pretty low expectations when I gave the first few chapters a shot. Having caught up, I think that this series is actually pretty decent if you keep in mind that the series isn't meant to be super serious (like eminence in shadow). It gets quite meta in certain parts and pokes fun at the cliches of the genre; it feels lighthearted but also not overly wacky. So overall, not too bad.
