I have very little notion of the author's other work, besides that it is kinda funky, and this one follows the same vibe... the pacing is... strange, not strange bad, more unique it can scare ya but if you can take it a little you get accustomed.
The story is weird, funny weird, and as time passes the over the top concepts get more and more established and you start to see that behind the weirdness there is some real thought, instead of depending only on the strangeness of things the author made the effort that everything makes "sense" in the world, so the supernatural fights using "boots" against "gloves" starts to feel really fun.
And the art design of the monsters gets more and more creative, and downright scary in some cases.
