The medusa has a built-in healing factor once the stone breaks. That makes no sense. The process doesn't have to be reversible, and even if that were the case, the fact that it is designed to reconstruct people down to the genetic level would make even less sense because that would have had to be intentional.

Granted, the goal could be to "restore nature with the least amount of direct death/destruction possible", in which case the medusa's functions make perfect sense and would be better than the myriad other ways to eliminate humans (like nukes)
