I know she's going off the assumption that she'll die in 10 years but assuming she died because of disease all she needs to do is remember her symptoms find a doctor and find out what caused the disease. Cu the fact that it happened when there was a famine means that maybe she  caught a sickness from the villagers and was the first victim of an epidemic.
