hope it gets fully translated
Well to compare with the only comment on this manga, I read this when I was 10 years old, borrowing them from the library and I loved the story... it was very fun and moving sometimes even though I didn't relate to the boy at all. I even remember crying at one particular scene ! I'm sure people of all ages can enjoy this ! As a child it had a very warm feeling and family-friendly plot like how a lot of japanese cartoons for children have (Doraemon, Chibi Maruko-chan...) and of course as an adult it can make you think about the different lifestyles people may have. I definitely need to read this again !
I'm imagining that younger readers will probably not like this one. If you're over 30 and if you grew up in the countryside, listening to stories from "the old days", you'll find this series a very pleasant and nostalgic read. Granny is funny, unpredictable and really good at making ends meet. Akihiro is very different from today's spoiled kids and though he wants what his better-off friends have, he realizes that material possessions are not always necessary for happiness in life. It's a really great slice of life story, making me think how much people's lives and attitudes have changed in only 50 years. I've so far read the first two volumes in French and can't wait for the rest to arrive.
