    A knight is bound to their lord and sovereign. There's no going against them that doesn't net you losing everything you own (in truth it was your lords property anyway) or worse your life and all your relatives and friends. Even Chivalry, which is a mostly romantic concept made up much later on in the medieval feudal era (iirc), doesn't protect you from disobeying even a unlawful order by your lord so much as it deferred some of the power of the nobility and the state to the Church- and if the church told you to do something immoral? Lol. And thats western dynamics. Samurai had it waaaaaaaaaaaay harder. The military is a machine. Stories like to tell us about individualism and honor but those are antithetical to an effective military. They need to be literally brainwashed head to toe. If you are smart and effective and make your lord happy then they ensnare your heart other ways that you can never betray them. Even good lords, even good knights. Thats just how the fucker goes mate
