I actually like this better than the novel. The novel takes too long for anything to happen while here everything is over simplified. I get the basic idea what is going on and believe me I have no need for long speeches and explanations.
I totally understand why the common opinion is that the novel is much better but for me this is entertaining enough.
Its called a spin off for a reason
First while the plot and characters are the same in the novel
This one is presented in a unique way without harming the original novel
As for me I can read the novel with out being bother by this at all
Such ashame that the novel is being left by a huge bound
If only the novel is as active as this lol
But I think its to much to ask more

SCHOOL CHAPTER IS COMMING! Yahooo!
It would be such a good shounen manga, IF it wasn't based of a novel! You see, it would work(kinda) as long as you didn't have the novel to compare to, but since the novel exists, this one becomes really crappy, and it gives me the feeling of that every character has been made into a comic-relief version. The score I give is for the effort of trying to make a manga of a really good novel.. This one ends up on the same list as Panlong manga for me (And I know they're not mangas, but I don't see the point in putting in the effort of checking the spelling...)
It's almost incredible how much this manhua is different from the novel. I will say it right now that you're better off not reading this manga. It changes a lot of fundamental plot points, turning the story into a stereotypical shounen plot. Each scene is done differently, so much so that a really good scene in the novel is turned into something face-palm worthy here, but the worse offense is that all the personalities have been changed.
It's utterly ridiculous how the protagonist has been changed from a sly, cunning fellow with an impulsive heart into a paper-thin hot-blooded shounen boy. I can't stress how much this makes it worse. I'm sure we all know how bad adaptations can get, but this manhua is one of the worse offenders because of how blatantly he changed the plot and characters to suit whatever he wants.
the novel itself is nicer still
the branch off from the original story confused me but i can enjoy it still
the teacher of Xiao yan is supposed to look old, even by battle saint standards (battle saint experts and above are supposed to regain their youth but the novel clearly states in one juncture that he looks ancient and at another they said he looks like an old man to the people xiao yan shows to)
It shows that if your personal tutor is over powered, you still become overpowered too.
