I began reading this manga anticipating a collection filled with outdated, slow-paced humor and an overwhelming number of references. However, the anime's impression was starkly different from what I found in this manga.

    Story - 9

Lucky Star doesn't really have a traditional storyline; it primarily focuses on the everyday lives of four high school girls. Although there are many comedy manga set in schools, the execution here is outstanding. Each comic strip consists of four panels that consistently deliver relatable glimpses into daily life.

    Art - 8

The artwork suits the simplicity of the story but isn't exceptional. The characters are supposed to be high school students, yet they initially appeared no older than thirteen to me. Miyuki stands out as the only character visibly recognizable as a high schooler due to her design. Otherwise, the art is clean, neat, and charming.

    Character - 9

The four main characters each embody clichés—with unique twists. There's Kagami, the hot-tempered yet intelligent girl; Miyuki, the naive, curvy genius; Tsukasa, the shy, innocent ditz; and Konata, the tomboy whose sexuality remains ambiguous. While the characters don't develop much, it's challenging to showcase growth in a four-panel format. Character personalities are established early on, allowing readers to understand them through their interactions.

    Enjoyment - 10

This manga makes relaxation effortless. I often find myself smiling at individual comics or relating to situations depicted. It’s incredibly enjoyable.

    Overall - 9

This manga surpasses its anime counterpart. It's quick and easy to enjoy. One drawback, however, is the dialogue, which can sometimes sound unnatural. For instance, Kagami once said something like, "Wait, I know what you're saying, so don't speak so loudly in public!" Really?

I recommend reading this manga. It's undoubtedly superior to the anime and has provided me with immense enjoyment.

The anime sticks closely to the manga, though those who were bothered by the infamous food episode (Episode one) might find it more enjoyable. Since it's a 4-panel manga, the chapters are quite brief, making it entertaining at least to observe the characters' expressions.

If you became interested in this manga because a friend recommended it, they likely mentioned that it's a slice of life story, so don't anticipate much action.

Additionally, if you enjoyed Azumanga Daioh and have seen some popular anime series like Haruhi or Fumoffu, there's a good chance you'll appreciate this one as well.
