I believe Gokkun! Pucho is one of the most underappreciated shoujo series out there because it's genuinely excellent and stands apart from other shoujos I've read. This series emphasizes that making someone fall in love with you isn't an easy feat. Simply trying doesn't guarantee a smooth journey. I'm impressed by Mayu's persistence in pursuing the person she likes, especially after being rejected once. I can somewhat relate to her situation. I truly admire Mayu for her mature attitude despite all the challenges she faces. I also appreciate Amamiya's realistic character portrayal. There are indeed many guys who seem indifferent to everything except themselves, and they require someone special to help them open up and soften their cold demeanor.

    First review time...

Pixie Pop revolves around Mayu Kousaka. She feels down after being rejected by her crush, Amamiya-kun, especially when she discovers he’s in the same class as her on her first day of middle school. Embarrassed and heartbroken, Mayu goes home to drink some soda and forget about Amamiya... but after consuming a peculiar concoction left out at her mother's café, she meets the drink fairy Pucho!

Pucho explains that what Mayu drank was her "Seven-Color Drink," which Pucho needed to grow up... and now, whenever Mayu drinks something other than water, her body transforms!

At first, Mayu doesn't believe it... but when she drinks cold milk and grows almost too big for her house, reality sets in.

This manga is very short, only three volumes - but each one is delightful to read. The art is charming, particularly the characters' oversized eyes, and the sugary-sweet shoujo colors on the cover of each volume. The story may not pull you in deeply, but it reads lightly and easily, like a refreshing sip of soda on a hot day. In every chapter, our poor heroine Mayu transforms into all sorts of quirky characters - melon makes her popular, green tea turns her into an old lady, and pork soup... well, that one was a disaster.

The main love story isn’t particularly engaging - there’s a long game of will-they-won't-they and he-loves-me,-he-loves-me-not between Mayu and Amamiya - but Mayu is refreshingly sweet, and supporting characters like Mayu’s best friend Nazuna and Amamiya’s friend Ryouta make for an entertaining side story, aptly titled "Desserts."

All in all, definitely recommended for those who want a short, light, and sweet read. It probably won’t satisfy if you’re looking for a long-running series, but it’s perfect to grab and read on the go. You won’t take long to finish, and you’ll be sad when you do.

    Pros:
    -Cute art.
    -Well-developed characters.
    -Interesting plot idea.
    -Quick and easy to read.
    Cons:
    -Not a very deep plot
-Could be too short for some

I can't believe no review has been written for this manga!!

The manga's about a girl named Mayu who's having love problems. After accidentally drinking the seven-colored juice, Pucho, the drink spirit suddenly appears. Now whenever Mayu drinks something her body transforms. For example, milk makes her taller and so on. Together they work for their own goals while helping each other; Mayu to get together with Amamiya and Pucho to become an adult.

When I first read about Pixie Pop, I thought it was one of those child-like manga that didn't have a very good story to it. What drew me in was mainly because of Pucho and Mayu transforming according to the drink she drank. However, the looks have deceived me. What I read was something quite meaningful. It was so meaningful I was crying at the end. Pixie Pop is not just a childish love but it's about a strong friendship as well. Which to me, made it very touching.

I liked the art, quite a bit. Everyone is drawn beautifully, so are the clothes. I didn't take too much notice of the background though. I was kinda rushing through the story to see what would happen. Hehe.

Each and every character was different and very real. Mayu is in love and is somewhat selfish because of that. Though this chases Pucho away, Mayu is always sorry in the end. Pucho was quite the same and coached Mayu through her love troubles while sucking each colored drop out of her. Amamiya, to me, was a complete jerk. I didn't like him but in some scenes, I had to admit, they looked pretty cute together. I would've preferred Yuuki more. He is kind, sporty, and fun, the complete opposite of Amamiya. Everyone changed as well, for the better. They all realized each of their faults and moved on.

I enjoyed Pixie Pop very much. Even in this short manga, I felt for the characters. I felt really happy, really angry, and surprisingly, really sad. Once I started, I couldn't stop reading it. I went well past midnight just to finish this manga. This is a very moving manga and I recommend it to anyone who wants a happy story but might need a good cry too.

Also! Don't judge a book by its cover. This is more meaningful than it actually looks.

I have to admit, I'm not really into the overly girly manga genre, but this one was surprisingly good. If you're familiar with Shugo Chara, it shares some similarities, especially with their "little characters" that assist them throughout the story. The plot is genuinely cute and incredibly funny. The characters are fantastic, particularly Pucho. I've reread the first volume multiple times and never grew tired of it. Even though I've only read one volume so far, it's been great, and it hooked me in instantly. I'm eager to read the next one, but it's challenging to find places to do so, and Mangafox keeps giving me viruses whenever I try to read there. Anyway, I highly recommend this manga as a must-read!

The concept behind 'Pixie Pop' is charming, yet it feels like it missed a significant opportunity. With more dedication to the storyline, this could have evolved into an engaging magical girl series. The potential for creativity with various liquids and transformations was vast, offering numerous possibilities for affecting multiple characters, not just Mayu (the female main character). Unfortunately, aside from one other character influenced by a magical drink, the scope of impact remained limited.

The romance between Mayu and Amamiya (the male main character) felt forced and lacked any genuine chemistry. If the narrative had centered more on the partnership between Mayu and Pucho (a fairy character), rather than Mayu's pursuit of Amamiya’s affection, the story would have been considerably stronger. In fact, omitting the romance altogether might have resulted in a more impactful tale. Mayu's obsession with Amamiya comes across as unhealthy throughout much of the reading experience.

'Pixie Pop' is merely decent. However, I do appreciate the manga for its portrayal of Mayu and Pucho's relationship. Their dynamic duo was entertaining and genuinely amusing. It’s also interesting to revisit Ema Toyama’s debut work and observe her growth as both a storyteller and artist over time. I recommend this series particularly for those interested in comparing it with her other works!
