Long ago, there existed a unique and forbidden mushi that destroyed everything in its path without discrimination. A mushishi from the Karibusa family sealed this dangerous mushi within herself, turning her skin ink-black before it ultimately led to her demise. However, she had already given birth to a child by then.
Since then, every other generation of the Karibusa family has inherited the burden of this forbidden mushi, causing parts of their bodies to turn ink-black and unusable. Nevertheless, they have learned how to control it. By listening to stories about the deaths of other mushi, they can suppress the forbidden mushi and use its mark as ink to document these tales, sealing the mushi away on paper. These individuals are known as Recorders, living in isolation with their records, visited only by family members and mushishi.
Karibusa Tanyuu is the fourth Recorder. The curse affects her right leg, and she has become adept at moving with crutches and hopping on one foot. Despite the constant pain caused by the forbidden mushi, she holds a deep love and respect for all forms of life, including mushi. She is proud yet kind, and no one could perform her role more effectively.
Tanyuu's greatest wish is to fully seal away the forbidden mushi and gain the freedom to travel alongside Ginko.
