"Holy Emperor" Souther is the sole practitioner of Nanto Houou Ken (South Star Phoenix Style), which is considered the most powerful among all Nanto Seiken styles. Therefore, he ranks as one of the strongest fighters in Hokuto no Ken. Nanto Houou Ken, like other Nanto Seiken styles, features sharp slicing movements aimed at damaging the external body. However, it uniquely lacks rigid stances or movements, except for one instance. When faced with a worthy opponent, Souther releases his ultimate technique, Nanto Houou Ken Ougi: Tenshou Juuji Hou (South Star Phoenix Fist Ultimate Technique: Soaring Cross Phoenix). Due to the rule that only one master of Nanto Houou Ken can exist at any given time, Souther was compelled to kill his mentor and beloved foster father, leaving him embittered and angry. He declared that he had rejected the concept of love forever. To honor his father, he constructed the Holy Cross Pyramid using child slave labor.
