Souichi Tomoe is commonly known as "Professor Tomoe," and the English dub refers to him as "Doctor" Tomoe. He makes his first appearance in Episode 90 of the anime and Act 25 of the manga.
In the manga, Tomoe is portrayed as purely malevolent. After a lab fire kills his wife Keiko and severely injures his daughter Hotaru, he willingly joins the Death Busters. Later, he transforms into Germatoid to fight Sailor Moon but is killed by her Rainbow Moon Heartache attack. He dies in the manga and does not return.
In the anime, Tomoe is depicted more sympathetically. He exhibits bizarre yet humorously over-dramatic mannerisms, often providing unexpected comic relief. It's unclear whether these traits belong to Germatoid or are repressed aspects of his personality, given the limited information about his life before and after possession. His kind and loving nature as a father occasionally shines through. At the end of the S season, he is shown in a hospital, wheelchair-bound and with no memory of his actions as part of the Death Busters. He takes on the responsibility of raising the now-infant Hotaru again.
Professor Tomoe appears one more time in the anime, specifically in Episode 167 (the first episode of the Sailor Stars season), when Sailor Pluto arrives to take baby Hotaru from him. In this episode, he is seen without his glasses and no longer uses a wheelchair, suggesting his condition is improving. After this episode, he is neither seen nor mentioned again.
