ichinose reiko
Reiko is Kai's mother. She works as a prostitute.
In the manga:
She has a deep love for the sea, though she has never seen it, which is why she named Kai after the word for "sea." Born and raised at the Edge of the Forest, it's unsurprising that she ended up becoming a prostitute. She despises her job and men as well.
Reiko gave birth to Kai when she was 15, making her 25 at the start of the manga. Despite her age, she looks very young.
