Kou Seiya is the leader of the Sailor Starlights and the lead vocalist for the Three Lights. Generally, Seiya comes across as arrogant and confidently self-assured.

Throughout the series, Seiya develops deep feelings for Usagi, and his efforts to connect with her create the main romantic tension of the season. From their first encounter, Seiya calls Usagi "odango," just like Mamoru does. They even go on a date at an amusement park, which ends abruptly when Sailor Iron Mouse attacks.

The relationship between Sailor Star Fighter and Princess Kakyuu is somewhat unclear. In the manga, the princess had a lover who was killed by Galaxia. In the anime, it's suggested that Seiya's romantic feelings for Usagi might be confused with similar feelings for Kakyuu.
