Jadeite, known as Jedite in the English anime, is the first of the Shitennou to appear and holds the lowest rank. In her Materials Collection, Takeuchi describes him as appearing about 18 years old, making him the second-youngest. However, in the live-action series, he is the youngest. He leads the Dark Kingdom's Far-Eastern Division and is named after the mineral jadeite.
In the manga, Jadeite's mission was initially to locate the Silver Crystal but later shifted to gathering life energy to awaken Queen Metaria. He had minimal interaction with his fellow Shitennou, only being seen with Nephrite, who would mock him when his plans failed. Despite this, when Jadeite was killed by the newly awakened Sailor Mars (whom he found attractive), Nephrite vowed to avenge him. When the power of the Silver Crystal was revealed, Jadeite and the other Shitennou were briefly revived and pledged loyalty to Prince Endymion once more. Unfortunately, they soon returned to their native crystal forms. Later in the series, they appeared in visions to guide and advise Endymion during difficult times.
In the anime, Jadeite's mission remained similar to that of the manga but included additional plots. He was extremely loyal to Queen Beryl and endured punishments for his failures, always aiming to improve his tactics to please her. He displayed more sexism in the anime than in the manga, often underestimating women's abilities. This sexist attitude was toned down in the English dub, where he developed a rivalry with the Scouts instead. In the dubbed Episode 12, he even flirted with "Serena," which did not occur in the original version. Ultimately, his failures led Queen Beryl to lose faith in him, issuing an ultimatum: destroy the Sailor Senshi or face Eternal Sleep. Jadeite put all his effort into the final assault, threatening Tokyo's destruction if the Senshi refused his duel. In a climactic battle, he nearly defeated the Senshi but was ultimately trapped by his own scheme. Upon returning to the Dark Kingdom with news of discovering the Senshi's identities, Queen Beryl encased him in an impenetrable ice crystal, condemning him to an eternal slumber. He is not seen again and is presumed to still be encased in crystal at the end of the story arc.
Jadeite's powers were formidable, manifesting through illusions and telekinetic manipulation. He could control Sailor Moon's tiara and render it harmless. Additionally, he enjoyed creating innovative ways to traverse vast distances through teleportation.
