Green Esmeraude, known as Emerald in the English dub, is the second member of the Black Moon Clan to make an appearance. She is a vain and selfish woman who strives to look like a goddess by wearing an elegant, tight-fitting dress, opera-length gloves, and knee-high stiletto boots. Her laugh is notably loud and piercing, often making her the most comedic character among the Black Moon members.
In the anime, Esmeraude takes over after Rubeus, deliberately choosing not to save him from an exploding spaceship. She harbors a deep infatuation with Prince Demand, who is obsessed with Sailor Moon. Driven by jealousy and greed, she seeks out Wiseman, hoping to win Demand's affection and destroy Sailor Moon. Wiseman gives her a magical tiara that he claims will make her the queen of Neo-Tokyo. Though suspicious, she accepts the gift and transforms into a 'queen'. Her powers increase, and she believes Demand will finally be hers. However, she is overwhelmed by dark forces and turns into an evil dragon. She immediately attacks the Crystal Palace, but the Sailor Senshi confront her, unaware that the monster is Esmeraude. Sailor Moon ultimately defeats the dragon with an attack. Briefly reappearing as the queen she desired to be, surrounded by a heavenly glow, Esmeraude is then consumed by a dark void beneath her. Unable to escape, she slips into the vortex and vanishes while reaching her hand outward, whispering Demand's name.
In the manga, Esmeraude's obsession with Demand remains intact. After failing to kill the Sailor Senshi using her subordinates Chiral and Achiral, she targets Chibiusa in the 30th century, revealing her monstrous hands by removing her gloves. She attempts to strangle Chibiusa but is temporarily stopped by Sailor Venus. When Sailor Moon tries to use Moon Princess Halation on Esmeraude, it proves ineffective. Esmeraude then uses her multiple hands to strangle Sailor Moon, Sailor Venus, and Tuxedo Mask. King Endymion's spirit appears behind Tuxedo Mask, granting him the power of Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber. With this new ability, Tuxedo Mask kills Esmeraude, freeing the other two Sailor Senshi.
