Gen Shishio first appears alongside Kyoichi Hiba as they inspect Karasumori Academy at night. The following day, he enrolls as a transfer student in Yoshimori's middle school.
Gen is the youngest son of the Shishio family and a member of the Night Troop. Being an Ayakashi Majiri, he has the ability to transform into a wolf-man. Masamori Sumimura sends him to Karasumori to assist Yoshimori and Tokine in their fight against Kokuboro.
Despite his young age, Gen has a serious demeanor with sharp, animal-like eyes and spiky black hair. His skin tone is dark. His battle outfit includes a ninja-like costume with purple pants and a short-sleeved robe, along with arm and leg guards. He also wears the Shadow Organization Star symbol. At Karasumori Academy, he usually wears the middle school uniform. A special flame tattoo covers parts of his body, given to him as a child to prevent full transformation.
Gen initially had a solitary nature and was hesitant to trust or interact with others. He struggled to understand human behavior, often observing and reflecting on it. He found the partnership between Yoshimori and Tokine puzzling, especially given the feud between their families, and couldn't comprehend Yoshimori's fondness for such a "scary girl." Even among friends, Gen remained somewhat reserved. Like Yoshimori, he was willing to risk himself to save others, driven by Masamori's trust in him.
It was later revealed that Gen avoided close relationships out of fear that others might see him as a monster or be harmed by his powers. After transforming fully in front of Yoshimori and Tokine and being accepted by them, Gen began to accept himself. However, he was soon killed in battle by Kaguro.
