Bonnon is the villain in the SuperS Special "Ami-chan no Hatsukoi" (Ami's First Love). During the special, Ami is intensely studying for her high school entrance exams, competing with a mysterious rival named Mercurius, who matches her perfect scores on every test. Due to her rigorous study schedule, Ami begins to suffer from severe sleep deprivation. One day at her prep school, she accidentally falls asleep through the entire class. When she wakes up, it is dark outside. Through the window, we catch our first glimpse of Bonnon—a mysterious glowing red face that quickly vanishes into a lilac mist. Feeling disoriented, Ami leaves her class. Meanwhile, the lilac mist materializes into Bonnon, who mistakenly believes that Ami is in love because she is constantly thinking about a man—her rival. As a spirit, Bonnon plans to feed off Ami's passions. She envelops Ami in her skirts, causing the girl to feel sick on her way home. At home, Ami lies in bed, feeling ill and troubled by thoughts that Mercurius is causing her harm. Because she is consumed by thoughts of Mercurius, Bonnon sees an opportunity to attack. She uses her "Love Letter Attack" against Ami. Suddenly, bubbles filled with all the information Ami has learned and memorized form over her head. As the bubbles pop, Ami starts forgetting everything. Meanwhile, Usagi, Mamoru, and ChibiUsa arrive at Ami's apartment. Inside, Ami is still losing all her knowledge to Bonnon. Usagi rushes in to help her friend, but the floor has disappeared, leaving her clinging to the door frame in desperation. ChibiUsa demands to know the villain's identity, but before Bonnon can introduce herself, the delirious Ami states that she is Mercurius, trying to defeat her.
