As much as i understand that's how it was back then, it still pisses me off.

I can somewhat understand the position of Williams father, although it is how William said at one point. You aren't born a gentleman, you become one. So it should be no problem for Emma to learn all the things the would need to know in order to be able to stand beside him.



What did surprise me how opposed even his own brother and sister were. The never met Emma, yet already oppose her after hearing of her occupation.



I furthermore wonder why we haven't met Mrs. Jounes yet. I assume she is dead?





And the impending death of Mrs. Stower was forseeable for serveral chapters now.

I only hope that she set up a will that mentions Emma so she won't be left alone with nothing.
