Emma Chapter 6 Discussion

                        Rather than poor medicine, life expectancy was low due to this being a time of disease. Hygiene and waste disposal certainly are important factors, albeit factors that vary across time rather than consistently improving. I can guarantee that when this era of civilisation comes to a halt, waste will pile up in the cities, and people there will die in large numbers.

Kellys monologue that she would follow her late husband soon, the graveyard in the beginning, the mention of the rather low life expectancy, this does sound like a bad omen.



If she really cares that much for Emma, I hope she mentioned her in her will and makes sure she will be somewhat stable in the case that something happens to herself.
